The IndigenousNCDs Engagement Model reflects our commitment to Indigenous-led collaboration, self-determination and collective action in addressing non-communicable diseases (NCDs) impacting Indigenous peoples in Australia and globally.
At the centre of the model are Indigenous Peoples and Communities, recognising that Indigenous voices, knowledge systems, lived experiences and leadership must guide all decision-making, policy development, advocacy and program design. IndigenousNCDs acknowledges that sustainable and long-term change can only occur when Indigenous peoples are empowered to lead solutions that reflect their cultural values, priorities and aspirations.
The model demonstrates the interconnected relationships between Indigenous communities, governments, the United Nations, non-government organisations, the private sector and allies. Each stakeholder plays a critical role in supporting culturally safe, equitable and community-led responses to prevention, treatment, advocacy, research and systems reform relating to non-communicable diseases.
Through strategic partnerships, collaboration and shared accountability, IndigenousNCDs seeks to strengthen Indigenous participation in health policy discussions across Australia and internationally, promote human rights and self-determination, and advance innovative approaches that improve health and wellbeing outcomes for Indigenous peoples worldwide.
This model represents more than engagement it reflects a collective movement grounded in culture, guided by community and driven by the right of Indigenous peoples to shape their own futures.
